Intent
We aim for all children at St Benedict’s to be confident in digital literacy and computer science by the time they leave Year 6. Computing at St Benedict’s is age appropriate and children are encouraged to use technology in a safe and controlled manner in order for them to develop their understanding of algorithms and programming, thus making the children prepared for later life.
We intend to do this by:
- Planning a high quality computing curriculum.
- Providing staff with the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding.
- Half-termly E-Safety lessons as well as the constant parental information regarding this.
- Allowing children to explore different software safely.
- Asses the children formatively during each lesson.
Implementation
Planning that challenges pupils to develop their understanding of computer science and digital literacy by using a variety of IT including; programming, coding, and word processing software.
All teachers:
- Will review the previous years’ planning to ensure gaps in learning are identified.
- Plan interactive lessons using a range of software.
- Ensure E-Safety is taught half termly.
- Demonstrate good practice when using IT equipment.
- Provide cross-curricular opportunities.
- Make accurate assessments at the end of unit of work.
Impact
To measure impact we will ask; What impact has the above had on:
- Complete pupil voice questionnaires.
- Collect a sample of work to demonstrate the quality of learning taking place within the session.
- Pupils will be able to access a vast range of software in order to produce work, program and debug algorithms.
- Subject leader to complete learning walks to see learning in action.
