Our Patron Saint

Who is Saint Benedict?

Benedict (c. 480-547) lived in sixth-century Italy when the great Roman Empire was disintegrating.

He was born in Nursia, in Umbria, a village northeast of Rome. His parents sent him to Rome for classical studies.

Saint Benedict became a monk as a young man and founded a monastery high in the mountains on Monte Cassino. It was there that he wrote the Book of Rule, a blessed rule of peace and stability which teaches us how to live and work together happily with God. St. Benedict is often shown holding his Book of Rule and a lighted torch, which represents how he illuminated others with his teaching.

St. Benedict called his Book of Rule “a little rule for beginners.”

Some of his writings include:

…speak the truth with heart and tongue.

If people curse you, do not curse them back but bless them instead.

Do not grumble or speak ill of others.

Place your hope in God alone.

…devote yourself often to prayer.

…harbor neither hatred nor jealousy of anyone…

Respect the elders…

Pray for your enemies.

If you have a dispute with someone, make peace with him before the sun goes down.

Blessed Nicholas Postgate

We are part of the Nicholas Postgate Catholic Academy Trust. Blessed Nicholas Postgate was a Catholic priest who risked his life to carry out his ministry and bring Jesus to others. Of all the priests who worked in the north-east corner of Yorkshire during penal times the one remembered with the greatest affection is Father Nicholas Postgate. The exact year when Nicholas Postgate was born is uncertain; at the time of his arrest in 1679 he himself said that he was ‘about the age of four score years’ so his birth must have taken place around 1599. His parents were James and Margaret Postgate who lived in Egton Bridge, a small hamlet about ten miles inland from Whitby. He was arrested when baptising a baby in Sleights His trial took place in March 1679, he was convicted of being a priest and sentenced to death. On 7th August that same day the sentence was carried on what is now the site of York racecourse.

Prayer of St Benedict

Our School Song

SCHOOL SONG

Christ at the heart of all we do.
Your shining light is the beacon of our school.
To be the best that I can be,
To learn and love with your grace in me.

Chorus

But do you know that God loves me?
By his mercy we are free.
We are. Oh we are.
He gives me strength to learn each day.
He’s the potter, we’re the clay.
We are. Oh we are.
St. Benedict’s School.

For our community we pray.
Thank you, Father for all you give us today.
Embracing all our gifts, unique.
Jesus in everything, it’s your face we see.

Chorus

But do you know that God loves me?
By his mercy we are free.
We are. Oh we are.
He gives me strength to learn each day.
He’s the potter, we’re the clay.
We are. Oh we are.
St. Benedict’s School.

In the world that we live in,
We will stand out from the crowd.
We’re following Jesus,
With a faith to brightly shine.

Chorus

But do you know that God loves me?
By his mercy we are free.
We are. Oh we are.
He gives me strength to learn each day.
He’s the potter, we’re the clay.
We are. Oh we are.
St. Benedict’s School.

☀️💙 Happy Summer Holidays from Class 2D! 💙☀️

What a fantastic year we’ve had! Thank you to all of our wonderful children and families for making it so special. We hope you all have a fun-filled, relaxing summer – you’ve certainly earned it!

And yes… we know a few tears made it into the class photo! 🤦‍♀️ In Miss Duffy’s defence, taking it straight after Mrs Noble’s leaving assembly wasn’t her finest decision! 📸😂

Have an amazing summer, everyone! 🌈☀️

🏆⚽ LEAGUE CHAMPIONS! ⚽🏆

A huge congratulations to our incredible Year 6 Girls’ Football Team on being crowned League Winners! 🎉💙

What better way to celebrate than with a well-deserved Nozecco shower! 🍾✨ The girls have shown fantastic teamwork, determination and resilience throughout the season, and they should be so proud of everything they have achieved.

A special thank you goes to Miss Harland, whose dedication, encouragement and hard work have helped the team reach this amazing milestone. Her commitment has played a huge part in the girls’ success, and we are so grateful for everything she has done.

This is the perfect way for our Year 6 pupils to round off their primary school sporting journey before heading off to secondary school. We hope they continue to embrace every sporting opportunity that comes their way and achieve even more success in the future.

We brought it home… now let’s hope the Three Lions can beat France and bring third place home! 🦁🏆

Well done, girls – you’ve made the whole school incredibly proud! 💙👏

🏴‍☠️⚓️ Ahoy, mateys! ⚓️🏴‍☠️
In nursery, we love a good party so much that we get to celebrate TWICE! 🎉🎉 The afternoon pirates set sail for an exciting Pirate Party adventure! 🏝️🦜💎
The children jumped aboard our pirate ship 🚢 and headed off on a very important mission… to find the hidden treasure box! 🗺️🔍✨ After searching high and low, our brave pirates discovered some AMAZING treasures! 💰💎🏆
Along the way, we had so much pirate fun:
🕺💃 Dancing to our favourite pirate tunes
🧽⚓️ Scrubbing the decks until they sparkled
🎶🏴‍☠️ Singing sea shanties together
🍎🧃 Enjoying some delicious pirate party treats
🌊☠️ Walking the plank like true buccaneers!
There were smiles, laughter, and adventures around every corner as our little pirates worked together and enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of fun. 😊❤️
What a treasure-filled day we’ve had! 🏴‍☠️💎🦜⚓️
